My Thoughts: In today’s ever-evolving world, where changes in leadership and policy can stir deep emotions and uncertainty, it’s crucial to approach each challenge with a blend of faith, strategy, and accurate information. As a Christian and serial entrepreneur deeply invested in the well-being of our communities, especially the black-owned businesses that grace the shelves of major retailers like Target and Costco, I feel called to share thoughts on supporting these enterprises effectively without jeopardizing their presence in the market.

18 Hours I will Never Forget: Recent shifts in federal policies concerning loans, grants, and initiatives have stirred significant concern across sectors affecting education, housing, and community programs. The abrupt changes announced on January 28, 2025, particularly those surrounding federal financial aid and support, initially caused widespread panic. It’s a stark reminder of the importance of verifying facts before reacting publicly. Spreading unverified news can lead not only to misinformation but also to unnecessary fear among those most vulnerable. While those changes only lasted yet hours, the uproar was hard to stomach. Now as it stands the freeze for federal policies currently has been lifted, staying informed moving forward is imperative.

The Power of Influence & Accurate Information: Before we react or share information on social media, it’s vital to ensure our sources are credible. In the age of instant information, the impact of spreading falsehoods can be long-lasting and harmful. Let’s commit to fact-checking and thoughtful sharing, especially when the stakes are as high as they are now.

Supporting Black-Owned Businesses: In light of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives and the significant representation of black-owned brands in large retail spaces, it’s more important than ever to support these businesses smartly and sensitively. Instead of reactionary boycotts or emotional responses that could inadvertently lead to these brands being pulled from shelves, we can choose to strategically support them. Creating and sharing a list of these businesses for consumers to support, buy out, and promote is a step toward economic empowerment that benefits everyone involved.
